'I Have Never Met Nicki Minaj' — Davido

Davido says he has never met Nicki Minaj despite collaborating with her on his single 'Holy Ground'.

Recall that Davido featured the American rapper in his single 'Holy Ground' off his 2020 'A Better Time' studio album which was released on November 12, 2020, by Sony Music, RCA Records, and Davido Music Worldwide popularly called ‘DMW’.

In a recent interview, the 28-year-old father of three had with Checc’D on Power 106FM, he disclosed that he had never met Nicki Minaj in his life before she put her verse on his ‘Holy Ground’ song.

Speaking on how the song came to be, Davido said it started with a random DM he sent her on Instagram.

He said, "Funny thing about Nicki is that I have never met her before we did the work, even till date.

I was on Instagram, I had just made a record. I was on my phone and the record was playing at the time and I was like 'yo Nicki will kill this'. 

"Randomly, her feed came on my Instagram so I just DM'ed her and she replied. She was like send it so I texted her the song and she sent it back in two days."

Speaking on his collaboration with Chris Brown and Young Thug on Shopping Spree, he said that they were one of the first international stars to acknowledge him as a musician.

He added that the music video of Shopping Spree had been shot in 2020 but he waited till summertime before releasing it.
