I Will Protect Lives If Voted Governor — Shehu Sani

A former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District has promised to ensure the security of lives if he becomes next governor of Kaduna State.

The lawmaker disclosed this while speaking during a radio interview in Kaduna on Saturday where he declared his intention to run for the state’s number one seat in the 2023 elections.

He said he will join the race to rescue the state from the mess that had been created by Governor Nasir el-Rufai, and that is because that is what his supporters want and that he trusts them.

Sani emphasized that the sanctity of human life must be respected.

“Anyone who insults and embarrasses the people is not worth being in power because respecting human beings is very important in religion.”

“We sat with my loyalists and supporters and they wanted me to contest the governor of Kaduna state which I will do to remove APC, God willing; to remove anointed candidate of the state governor and to enter Government house where Comrade will be sworn in as the next governor that will bring changes, that will clean all the dirt they brought in the state in the name of development.”

“I will bring security. This is what my supporters wanted and I trust them. So, I will contest the governorship seat under the PDP. Therefore, I call on the people of Kaduna to support and collaborate with me, “he pleaded.

“I also solicit for their prayers; I need the prayers of religious leaders, marketers, physically challenged, women and youths. You voted for Malam as Governor what remains now is to have a comrade as a governor to see the difference between us,” he added.

He also called on people of the state to reject anointed candidates ‎of those who demolished their houses.

” I don’t have money to share to delegates to vote for me, money politics is what brought the country into the mess under the ruling party.”

” If the masses decide to vote for me, with or without money, I will win.

This would not be the first time politicians have promised to secure the lives and properties of voters. President Muhammadu Buhari had also in 2015 and subsequent years promised protection of lives and properties as well as wealth creation.

Born October 29, 1967, Shehu Sani prides himself as a rights activist, sighting his role as a leading figure in the struggle for the restoration of democracy in Nigeria.

Jailed by some past military regimes in Nigeria, he was released from life imprisonment when democracy was restored in Nigeria in 1999.

The former lawmaker contested and won the Kaduna Central Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressive Congress on 28 March 2015.

However, there was a falling out with now Governor, Nasir El Rufa’i, with Sani accusing him of pursuing capitalist and conservative policies to drive away from the poor and the less privileged from the state as opposed to his welfarist and progressive disposition.

Shehu Sani is among the few Northerners who are bold enough to speak against the seeming inaction of the government in restoring peace to the nation.
