A popular Ibadan based human right activist and socialist, Laoye Sanda is dead.
Sanda, who was popular for his role and support for the "Ali Must Go" protest of 1978 died on Thursday.
Confirming his death, the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) in a statement signed by the duo of Abiodun Bamigboye (Acting National Chairperson) and Bosah Chinedu (National Secretary) on Sunday described the deceased as a long standing revolutionary.
"For instance, he was among the academics sacked by Olusegun Obasanjo military government because of their support for the students’ uprising tagged ‘Ali Must go’ in 1978,” the party said.
“Until his death, he was a close collaborator of the SPN.
He supported the SPN in its many struggles against various anti-poor capitalist policies and for the socialist transformation of the Nigeria.”
