Ibadan Residents Groan Over Power Outage, Threaten IBEDC

Despite the restoration of power to many parts of Ibadan after weeks of general power outage in the country, residents of Goodness Estate in Arulogun-Ojoo, Ibadan, Oyo State capital, are lamenting incessant power outage in their estate, resulting in damages to stored goods and perishable items.

They are also threatening not to pay any bill to Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) if supply is not restored to their area.

Speaking on behalf of other residents, the Former Chairman of the Estate, Professor Olusola Olatunj lamented that while other parts of the state have a power supply, it was not the same for the estate in the past two weeks.

He stressed that even when they had a glimpse of the power supply, it hardly lasted up to a minute.

Olatunji, therefore, appealed to the Federal Government to make electricity a priority.

He also urged IBEDC to resolve the issue of prepaid meters, so that residents are not forced to pay for what they don’t consume.

One of the youths in the estate, Akin Adebayo, said they had reached out severally to officials of IBEDC on the way forward but they didn’t react to their complaints.

A resident, Adebanke Ojo, who sells food items in the estate, said all the food items stored in her refrigerator had spoiled due to frequent power outages.

She, therefore, urged the Federal Government and IBEDC to resolve the power issue and make life easier for the residents.
