Ibrahim Attahiru: Cleric Warns Against Further Disaster

The Chaplain, Gray International Cathedral, in Osun, Rev. Abraham Okunade, has called on Nigerians to intensify prayers toward ensuring that national disasters are prevented from reoccurring.

Okunade made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Osogbo.

He expressed sadness on the death of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other officers in a plane crash in Kaduna.

He said,”there is a need to pray for the harmonious peace of this country in order to avert any bad situation that could lead to the death of any precious soul.

“The death of Gen. Attahiru is shocking and since the information about the demise of the officers came to my hearing I have been troubled by my spirit.

“The heroes died while serving their country with all their might in order to see that peace and tranquillity reign in the face of insecurity,” Okunade said.

According to him, the faithful must encourage their followers to always remember Nigeria in prayers especially in the areas of insecurity, banditry, and kidnapping.

“The Bible says in the book of 1 Thessalonians 5:19 that Christians ought to pray without ceasing and that everyone must emulate by praying for the peace of Nigeria.”

The Chaplain expressed condolences to the families of the departed officers and called on the Nigerian Military to further probe the cause of the crash in order to prevent future ocurrence.

Okunade, however, said that the solution to all the painful happenings in the country “is through the altar of prayers, seeking the face of God, which every believer must do to move the country forward”.
