Janne Andersson, the coach of Sweden, announced on Wednesday that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be returning to the national team squad after a year-long absence for their European Championship qualifiers against Belgium and Azerbaijan later this month.
Although the 41-year-old played his last match for the national team in 2022 against Poland in the World Cup qualification playoff loss, he has been struggling with a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him sidelined since then.
After quitting international football after Euro 2016, AC Milan striker Ibrahimovic made his return in 2021 for their unsuccessful World Cup qualifiers.
However, Andersson stated to reporters that he doesn't see him as a starter for the upcoming matches, and it will be more like how it has been in Milan with substitution possibilities.
Ibrahimovic has scored 62 goals in 121 matches, making him Sweden's all-time top scorer.
