If My Resignation Will Bring Peace to Zamfara, I’m Ready – Matawalle

If My Resignation Will Bring Peace to Zamfara, I’m Ready

Bello Matawalle has expressed readiness to quit his job as the Governor of Zamfara State if it takes such resignation to bring peace to the state.

The governor announced his stand on Wednesday night during an interview program, Politics Today, on  Channels Television, saying he is not a power-hugger.

When asked if he is intimidated by the Federal Government decision of declaring the state as a ‘No-Fly-Zone’, he said he is ready to accept any solution that will bring peace to the state.

“I am ready to accept any solution that will bring security to my state," Matawalle said.

“I am not intimidated. If I know that my resigning as a governor will make the people sleep with their two eyes closed, I can resign. I am ready to do what will bring security. I am not power-hungry. I have been having a sleepless night to protect the people of Zamfara State.”

The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno, had on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari approved the decision to declare Zamfara as “No-Fly-Zone,” as part of its efforts to combat the insecurity challenges in the state.

Matawalle noted that he has no grievances regarding the order of the FG, but expressed his disappointment that the National Security Council did not consult him before making the declaration.

He also declared that ‘No-Fly-Zone’ order is not the same as declaring a state of emergency.

He argued that Zamfara is not the only northern state having security challenges in the northern part of Nigeria and that the flight ban was supposed to have been extended to some other state experiencing security challenges as Zamfara.
