IGP approves new area commands

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun commenced a three-day official visit to Ogun State on Tuesday, where he gave the green light for the establishment of additional area commands in Ifo, Imeko, and Idi-Iroko areas.

Accompanied by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) for Zone II, Olatoye Durosimi, and the State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, Egbetokun arrived at the command's headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

During his address to stakeholders and police personnel, Egbetokun urged command officers to intensify their efforts in combating crime within the state.

He emphasized the need for increased support for the police to effectively tackle crime in the region.

“I have heard your request for an area command in Ifo, and that request has been granted.

“We are not, however, going to stop at creating an area command in Ifo; we will also create two area commands in the border areas of Idi-Iroko and Imeko.

“On the issue of manpower, lack of vehicles, and operational logistics for the Ogun command, I have whispered to the CP that he should give me a list of all the command’s needs, and we will pay attention to them,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, Alamutu noted that Ogun remains one of Nigeria’s safest states despite its fair share of security challenges.

Alamutu expressed optimism that the IGP’s visit would re-energise the officers and men for better service delivery.

He promised that the men and officers of the Ogun command would remain loyal and committed to the force’s ideals and vision.

Egbetokun also inaugurated the newly built main office, the technical intelligence unit, and the complaints unit on the command’s premises.

During his three-day visit to the state, the IGP is expected to visit the four paramount rulers of Egba, Ijebu, Remo, and Yewa.
