IGP Usman Alkali Baba
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has approved the vaccination of officers of the force against Hepatitis B.
The IGP's approval was in line with his administration's policy on the health and wellness of the police.
The IGP also approved the partnership of the Nigeria Police Medical Services with the Daniel Onoja Foundation to achieve the testing and screening of the officers.
According to him, the gesture would promote good health practices among the police.
This was contained in a statement by the image maker of the Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday.
"The exercise which will take place from Wednesday 19th to Friday 21st April 2023 at three designated centres viz the Force Headquarters Sick Bay, Muhammadu Buhari Police Hospital, Area 11, Garki, and the Police Hospital, Dei-Dei, all in Abuja, is targeted at creating awareness on the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) which infects more than 300 million people worldwide and is a common cause of liver disease and liver cancer," he stated.
The IGP further charged the officers to take advantage of the exercise to equip themselves with the knowledge of Hepatitis B.
"The Inspector General of Police has therefore charged Police Officers and Men to take advantage of this exercise, which will subsequently cascade down to Zonal and State Commands, to get first-hand knowledge and awareness of the virus.
"He equally charged them to prioritize their health as it is vital for robust policing services to members of the public," Adejobi added.
