Ilesa Water Project: Osun Assembly Summons Consultant, Ministry Over Shoddy Job

Ilesa Water Project: Osun Assembly Summons Consultant, Minis

Osun Assembly Speaker, Timothy Owoeye

The Osun State House of Assembly has summoned the Consultant handling the Ilesa water project, the Contractor, and the Osun State Ministry of Water Resources to appear before the House of Assembly.

This is as the House of Assembly expressed displeasure over the poor job being done at the Ilesa water project.

The Ilesa water project is being handled by the Contractor and the Consultant.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Timothy Owoeye handed down a warning at plenary on Thursday concerning the failure of the persons concerned. regarding the water project to appear before the House added that the Assembly will not fail to order for a warrant of arrest, should any of the affected persons fail to comply with the summon.

Owoeye while disclosing that the Ilesa water project had gulped so much money expressed concern that yet the work done so far is so inconsequential compared to what has been expended.

"I call on the State Ministry of water resources, the Contractor, and the Consultant of the project to appear before the Assembly on the 29th of November to explain why the House of Assembly should not sanction them over why the project has not been completed."

While maintaining that the contractor in charge of the project will be brought to book because taxpayers' money was involved, the Speaker revealed that findings by the Assembly had revealed that the Contractor in charge of the water project had collected a lot of money without doing much.

He noted that the 7th Assembly under his watch will be alive to her responsibility of oversight.

He also warned that the Assembly will not hesitate to wield the big stick if the need arose.

"We are not happy with what is going on with the Ilesa water project all those involved especially the Ministry of Water Resources, the Consultant, Engineer. Tawa Williams, the Contractor, and the subcontractor, they should all appear before the Assembly on Tuesday 29th of this month.

"Our findings revealed that the Contractor in charge of the water project has collected a lot of money without doing much, they must be brought to book because taxpayers' money is involved.

"They will need to come and explain to the public what is delaying the completion of the project when much had been provided and given to the contractor in charge," the Speaker emphasized.

In January 2022, the Speaker of the Osun Assembly had described as unfounded insinuations that the Ilesa Water Works project is set to become another abandoned project.

Owoeye while debunking the rumour also described it as faceless, not signed, and filled with unsubstantiated allegations.

A letter had surfaced early in the year which also alluded to the fact that the project consultant, Engr. Tawa Williams who was instrumental to the smooth running and progress of the project was removed without any reason.

The removal, the letter observed had created a big setback to the project to the point that the federal ministry of water resources was surprised at the Governor's decision.

The letter also accused the state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola of abandoning some other public projects in the state which was commissioned by his predecessor, Rauf Aregbesola.
