Imo Governor Commends MTN Over Renovation Of Laboratories

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has commended the popular telecommunication brand, MTN Nigeria for remodelling science laboratories in the state.

The governor gave the commendation in Owerri on Thursday, during the official inauguration of the science laboratories in Government Secondary School, Owerri, remodelled by the MTN Foundation (MTNF).

Represented by the Commissioner for Education in the State, Prof. JohnCliff Nwadike, Uzodinma said the renovation of the chemistry, biology and physics laboratories would facilitate the student's interest in promoting their knowledge in science, technology and innovation.

He maintained that the intervention would promote the employability of the students upon graduation, and in turn make them wealth creators who would promote economic development and security.

Uzodinma lauded the MTNF for fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities, stating his administration's readiness to continuously partner with the foundation.

“The laudable zest with which MTN carries out its corporate social responsibility is clear for all to see.

”This administration remains committed to quality education at all levels, hence our readiness to support MTNF and other stakeholders who take the initiative to encourage us in one way or the other,” he said.

The governor further encouraged science teachers to adopt digital technology to aid the improvement of proper technical skills in the students.

He also urged the students to focus on their academics, while assuring the foundation of the maintenance of the refurbished laboratories.

He appreciated the Old Boys of Government Secondary School Owerri for turning MTN's attention to the school.

The Governor also promised to support affordable, quality and digital/technology education in the state.

In his remark, the Director of MTNF,  Dennis Okoro, stated that the Foundation decided to remodel the science laboratories in the school as part of its corporate social responsibilities to the society after it saw the need for technological education.

Okoro noted that MTN had been executing other laudable projects across the country to add to her socio-economic advancement with a view to reducing poverty, hunger, suffering, crime and violence.

Executive Secretary of MTN,  Odunayo Sanya said  ” More than 2000 communities and over 30 million people in Nigeria have benefited from MTN projects and we are committed to do more, giving back to the society”.
