Imo: Police search forest, decomposing bodies discovered

Three decaying, unidentified remains thought to be abducted victims have been found in a forest in the towns of Ihiagwa and Avu in the state's Owerri West Local Government Area by the Police Command in Imo.

The finding was verified by ASP Henry Okoye, the public relations officer for the Imo State Police Command, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Owerri.

According to NAN, Imo hunters and forest guards found four decaying remains in the forest, as shown in a social media video that went viral.

Okoye, Aboki Danjuma, the Commissioner of Police has reportedly ordered a tactical squad to exhaustively explore every bush and forest in the vicinity to find any additional bodies or kidnappers.

“Operatives of the Imo State Police Command Special Tactical Squad, led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Aboki Danjuma, raided a forest along the Avu-Ihiagwa communities, suspected to be kidnappers’ hideouts.

“In the process, five suspected kidnappers were arrested, while three decomposing unidentified corpses suspected to be kidnapping victims were recovered. The command intends to carry out further DNA confirmatory tests to ascertain the identities of the victims,” Okoye stated.

He stated that a thorough search of the state's forests and other hidden places is being conducted to eradicate any illicit activity.

He urged the people to disclose to the police any sensitive information that might help them protect and secure the state and apprehend criminals.
