The death of popular Nigerian music legend, Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan came as a rude shock to Nigerians on Sunday morning.
According to a statement signed by Dr. Kayode Fasasi, the 44-year-old basketball enthusiast fought a hard battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma but succumbed to it in the long run.
Recall that news of Sound Sultan resorting to chemotherapy treatment following his alleged throat cancer diagnosis had made the rounds in May, but his brother Baba Dee was quick to tag the rumour as false.
In an interview with QENng, Baba Dee confirmed that he was indeed sick but the ailment was not related to throat cancer. Baba Dee, however, did not reveal the sickness his brother was suffering from.
On May 13, Sound Sultan himself posted an Eid Mubarak message on Thursday via his Instagram page, stating that he would tell his story himself.
After the news of his death broke, Netizens pointed to his last Instagram post, which suggested that he might have known that his end was near.
His last post was Patoranking's 'Celebrate Me' music video, which calls on people to celebrate others while they are alive and not wait till they're gone.
Up until his death, Sound Sultan made a lasting impact in the entertainment industry and he didn't just drop classic songs, they were largely relatable and socially conscious.
He creatively bashed bad governance, corruption, oppression and social injustice and his music resonated with Nigerians on different levels.
