INEC Announces Date For Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the date for the conduct of the Anambra state governorship election.

Announcing the date for the governorship election in a statement by Festus Okoye the National Commissioner for Information and Voters Education, INEC revealed that the governorship poll has been fixed for November 6, 2021.

The commission further stated that political parties will be allowed to conduct their primary election between 10th of June and 18th of July 2021.

Further asking political parties to pay attention to the timeline and schedule of activities as arranged by the commission, INEC  urged the parties to conduct a conflict-free primary election.

"We enjoin political parties to conduct rancour-free primaries, guarantee level playing field for all aspirants and conduct necessary due diligence on all forms and documents that will be submitted to the commission," the statement by Okoye read in part.

The commission expressed worries at the rate of nomination of unqualified candidates that results in avoidable litigation.

"The Commission is concerned about the spate of acrimonious primaries as well as the nomination of unqualified candidates which results in avoidable litigations and the nullification of election by, election petition tribunal."

INEC implored all stakeholders of the election to support its effort to strengthen the electoral process.

Okoye also revealed that technology will be used during the election for the conduct of a free, fair and credible election.
