INEC Assures Elections Will Hold Despite Fuel, Cash Hitches

Yakubu Mahmood, INEC Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, has assured Nigerians that the February 25 and March 11 elections will hold despite the fuel scarcity and the limited availability of Naira notes nationwide.

Yakubu stated this at the State House shortly after briefing the President, Muhammadu Buhari, and others members of the Federal Executive Council at the State House, Abuja.

He said the commission has settled the two major possible obstacles to its operations; fuel scarcity and the scarcity of naira notes.

“Rest assured that the elections will hold on February 25 for the Presidential and National Assembly and March 11 for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly,” he said.

Mahmood, however, declined to comment on the Supreme Court’s decision to restrain the Federal Government from proceeding with the new naira policy.
