INEC Fixes Date For All Pending By-Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will be conducting all pending By-Election in the country on the 5th of December 2020.

Making this announcement in a statement on Friday,  Festus Okoye INEC National Commissioner for Information and Voters Education revealed that the pending By-election is for 15 elective positions in 11 states.

Further revealing that the commission consulted with Political parties and other relevant stakeholders before fixing the date for the By-election, the statement by Okoye read in part:

"The Commission consulted with political parties and Civil Society Organization Tuesday 10th November 2020, and with the Media and Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) on Wednesday 11th November 2020. Finally, it met with all Resident Electoral Commissioners On Thursday, 12th November 2020.

"Based on these consultations, the commission believes that security in the affected states has improved while the environmental challenges have reasonably abated. Consequently, the Commission has decided to hold all the pending By-election on Saturday, December 5, 2020."

Okoye further urged voters and stakeholders in the affected states to cooperate with INEC in its quest to deliver credible elections under a safe environment.
