Insecurity: Borno Recruits 1,800 Police Constabulary To Comb

According to the Borno State Police Commandroughly 1,800 police officers have been recruited to its constabulary to aid in the state's fight against crime.

Abdu Umar, the police commissioner, made the announcement on Sunday in Maiduguri.

He said that instructions on what was expected of them in the performance of their tasks were being given to the freshly recruited recruits.

To provide effective community policing, Umar stated that the constables would be assigned to their communities in the state's 27 local government regions.

According to him, the federal government created the Community Policing Constabulary Scheme of the Force as a fully voluntary service to train and recruit people with past paid employment who want to spend their spare time helping the police in their respective communities.

They would help the police with crime detection and prevention, conflict resolution, intelligence collecting, and transmission to neighbourhood police commanders, he stated.

Other responsibilities included upholding law and order, being deployed to assist traditional police officers in monitoring their collective public area, providing safety advice to the general public, and collaborating with pertinent stakeholders on crime control.

“We have already deployed 10 policemen in all the LGAs in the state to augment other sister security agencies that are combating terrorism and other crimes.

“Very soon you will see the police everywhere. These will be dressed in black and black; they are different from our police in their crest and badges,” he said.

Abdu promised that the men would step up their operations on criminal hideouts and increase police presence to dissuade criminals from harbouring criminal intentions.
