Gunmen have invaded the Garin Baka community of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State, killing fifteen residents.
According to reports, the gunmen numbering about 60 invaded the community on Friday night.
The assailants shot sporadically while setting houses ablaze and rustling cows.
A resident who spoke to Daily Trust, identified as Yakubu Garba, said the gunmen invaded when people were praying in a mosque.
The invaders were said to have looted shops and warehouses.
He explained that the people had to stop the prayer and run for safety.
He added that while some of the residents escaped to the nearby forest, two of his family members were killed during the invasion.
He said many other people escaped with gunshot wounds.
Garba disclosed that while more than ten bodies have been recovered from the invasion, many others including women and children were missing.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, SP Usman Abdullahi, said the attack took place but the command was waiting for the official report from the Sunkani Police Division in the area.
Meanwhile, he could not give the actual figure of the casualties recorded as a result of the invasion.
