Insecurity: IGP Sacks Anambra CP

The inspector-general of police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has sacked the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Tony Olofu over recent attacks in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday night by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Cap Frank Mba.

Mba added that the IGP has also appointed CP Echeng Eworo Echeng as a replacement for the sacked CP.

He further stated that a detachment of the Nigerian Police Force Special Forces has been deployed to support the ongoing peace process in the state.

While calling on the people of Anambra state to support the new CP in his task of restoring peace, he urged the new CP to work closely with stakeholders in the state.

The IGP expressed concerns over renewed attacks on innocent people while hoodlums hold government hostage.

He further urged the new CP to use his professional experience in reversing the narrative.

The FPRO, Frank Mba noted that CP Echeng was the commissioner of police in Bayelsa State before his posting.

Echeng is a graduate of History from the University of Maiduguri.

He also has vast experience in peace building from Mission Training Cell, Kielce, Poland.

While having other skills from numerous leadership courses, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Zonal CID, Zone-13, Ukpo, Anambra State, Police Component Commander Joint Task Force and Operation Delta Safe and many others.
