Insecurity: Joint security force raids insurgents’ camp re

A joint security force team has dismantled an insurgent camp in Achalla, the headquarters of Anambra State's Awka North Local Government Area.

According to a news statement issued by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the team discovered rifles and ammunition, as well as cars confiscated from kidnapping victims.

“The hoodlums had disrupted trading at Achalla market the previous Monday, ordering traders to observe the proscribed sit-at-home order, thereby drawing the attention of the joint security forces, led by the police.

“The State Police Command decided on giving them a taste of their own medicine in the early hours of Monday 19th February 2024, and the operation which was hugely successful.

“This led to the recovery of five exotic vehicles previously snatched at gunpoint, over 300 rounds of machine gun ammunition and 34 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition for AK-47 rifle,” he said.

Ikenga stated that all operatives involved in the raid were unharmed and that the command had requested that the owners of the recovered vehicles be contacted and presented with proof of ownership to collect them.

He stated that the insurgents fled with bullet wounds and that a manhunt for them will extend to hospitals and clinics to ensure they are brought to justice after obtaining proper treatment.
