Instill Safety Measures In Students - Group

A group, the Association for Formidable Educational Developments (AFED), Ogun State chapter has advocated for safety measures to be instilled in students to help them avoid dangers.

This was disclosed by the AFED Controller, Ogun State chapter, Olusegun Omoyayi, at a free safety training lecture for students organised by a safety organisation, N Safe Limited, on Friday.

“Whatever children learn at a young age, stays with them for a long time, they are easy to mould.

"We are educators, we educate them, and we will give them a conducive environment for them to learn.

"As they are out of their school premises, they are in a different environment and they will be receptive to whatever they are taught.

“I have encountered a deadly game made for children on Facebook and sadly, we got a report that there had been two deaths already among the children.

"Now, if children are lectured, if they are aware of the danger, they will avoid such things.”

The Youth Safety Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, Jesutomipe Mala, noted that a lot of crashes occur because many road users lack the basics of road safety, which made it important to teach students to understand the basics from a young age.

“In the FRSC, we have an initiative called ‘catch them young’, it is just to ensure that children are involved when it comes to road safety matters.

“We have a lot of crashes on the road, and a lot of things happen on the road, many drivers have lost it when it comes to driving, they don’t even understand the road.

"They drive without understanding the basics and that’s why we have a lot of crashes.”
