The Governor of Gombe State Muhammadu, Inuwa Yahaya, has flagged off the sales of subsidised fertilisers for the 2022 wet farming season.
The governor flagged off the sales at Dukul village in Kwami local government area of the state.
During the ceremony marking the distribution, governor Yahaya said the fertiliser would be sold at the rate of N19,000 per bag contrary to the market price of N25,000.
Disclosing the reason for the late distribution, the governor explained that the security situation of the country amongst other things had stalled the procurement of the farm products.
He noted that his government had devised a means to reach farmers at the grassroots.
The governor explained that the distribution would be made through polling units in every local government area of the state.
“Our objective is to ensure that our rural farmers are supplied all the basic farm inputs at their doorsteps without necessarily going through bureaucratic or economic red-tapism associated with the past."
Governor Yahaya further expressed concern over encroachment of grazing reserves by farmers.
He called on farmers to desist from exceeding their territory while urging pastoralists to avoid grazing on farmlands.
