Investors Gain N1.81bn Despite Poor Market Turnover

Market turnover closed negative on Thursday as volume moved down by -23.20 percent as against a -29.43 percent downtick recorded in the previous session, boosted by high activity in the banking sector.

At the close of another trading day having 3,656 deals valued at N2.64 billion, the All-Share Index only inched up 0.01 percent to 39,131.80 index points. The banking index edged 0.04% lower to 357.76 points, despite remaining the most active sector in the market with institutions such as Guaranty Trust Bank Plc,  Zenith Bank Plc and FBN Holdings topping the market's turnover list.

Top 5 Gainers

Cutix Plc topped today's advancer's list of 17 gainers, up 7 percent, or 14kobo to close trading at N2.14 per share.

PZ Cussons Nig Plc extended its rally with a 6.93 percent gain of 35kobo to close trading at N5.40 per share, approaching its 52-week high of N5.85.

Linkage Assurance Plc bounced back 5 percent, or 4kobo, to pare yesterday's losses and close trading at 84kobo per share.

Courteville Business Solutions Plc posted gains for the first time since April 13, climbing 4.35 percent, or 1kobo to close trading at 24kobo per share.

Oando Plc rose 3.96 percent, or 12 kobo to close at N3.15 per share after briefly touching a day's high of N3.26 — its biggest intraday jump of the month.

Top 5 Decliners

EkoCorp Plc dropped 10 percent, or 60kobo from its 52-week high of N6 per share to lead 13 losers and close trading at N5.4 per share.

Sunu Assurances Nigeria Plc, after remaining unchanged for a long while, dropped 9.09 percent, or 6kobo to close at 60kobo per share.

Honeywell Flour Mill Plc's winning streak was halted as its shares dipped 8.45 percent, or 12kobo to close at N1.30 per share.

Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc gave away its gains for the month with an 8 percent dip worth 2kobo, closing trading at 23kobo per share.

Unity Bank Plc continued its bearish month with a 6.78 percent drop worth 4 kobo to close trading at 55kobo per share.

Top 5 Trades

Guaranty Trust Bank Plc topped the ranks of most active, top turnover and most traded stocks simultaneously as it enveloped 517 trades with a volume of 37.29 million units valued at N1.16 billion.

Zenith Bank Plc was the second favourite today, with 375 trades weighing 28.75 million units valued at N635.3million.

FBN Holdings Plc closed as investors' third favourite today, holding the spot among top turnover and most active stocks of today with 161 trades at a volume of 22.31 million units valued at N164.88 million.

Fidelity Bank Plc was the fourth most active in the stock market with a trading volume of 17.54 million units valued at N39.04 million.

UBA Plc came next, closing at the market with a trading volume of 15.05 million units valued at N109.6 million units.
