iOS, Android Now Default into 'Following' Timeline On Twitte

Based on a recent thread from Twitter, you can now default to the ‘Following’ timeline on your iOS and Android devices such that you will no longer need to swipe to the left to get to the reverse chronological timeline.

Twitter’s iOS and Android app will now default to showing you the last timeline tab you selected, whether it’s the algorithmic “For You” or the reverse chronological “Following” list.

Twitter Thread

The company rolled out this feature on the web in late January after it changed the system for selecting your timeline earlier that month.

This means the app now works mostly as you would like to see.

By switching to the following timeline and closing the app, you would be taken back to the 'Following' list the next time you open it.

On the other hand, if you leave it on the 'For You' tab, that’s what it’ll default to.

Take note also that while your pinned lists will still show up along the top bar, you won’t be able to set them as default.

According to a test trial, if you leave the app on a pinned list, it will set the For You page as default for if the app is kicked out of memory and has to reload.

You would have observed that before Twitter rolled out the ability to swipe between its timelines, you were able to set a default via a star-shaped button that lived in the top right corner.

That option temporarily went away when the company switched to a swiping model for choosing your timeline.

Thankfully though, the feature is back now, such that no matter how you use the service (unless, of course, you usually used a third-party app or another service that used the API).
