IPOB Lawyer Delivers Nnamdi Kanu's Message To 'Biafrans'

Nnamdi Kanu

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nigerian Biafra political activist, Nnamdi Kanu and the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday disclosed that he met with "His Excellency".

According to Ejimakor, Kanu is "in high spirits".

The legal practitioner added that Kanu, the IPOB leader, asked that Biafra agitators maintain an harmonious relationship.

"I met with His Excellency today for nearly 3hrs," Ejimakor wrote on his known Twitter handle. "He greets you all. He’s in high spirits despite the tribulations. He’s looking forward to overcoming this damned rendition sooner than later. He requests that there should be no disunity; that the Family must remain focused."

Kanu, IPOB, and Biafra agitators want a separate nation. Their major grouse is that successive Nigerian governments have “failed them”, hence their resolve.

But the Nigerian federal government do not want to strain national unity, insisting the country is indivisible and better together.

Kanu, a Nigerian-British citizen based abroad, does broadcast religiously followed by hundreds of people of Eastern Nigeria.

The Nigerian government had accused IPOB members of being violent, unlawfully carrying arms, and responsible for recent destructions in the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria, accusations IPOB have continually refuted.

The plan to have a Biafra nation is not new. A similar movement for a state of Biafra to secede from Nigeria that was headed by another Igbo leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, led to Nigeria’s civil war in the late 1960s, during which more than 1 million ethnic Igbos were killed, many of them through starvation.

Facing treason charges, he had fled Nigeria since 2017. Kanu was rearrested through a joint security effort in Kenya late last month (June). He has a date in court on the 26th of June.
