As Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) goes to court today (Monday), supporters of the outlawed group are showing solidarity with the Abia-born political activist.

Recall Kanu was rearrested in Kenya in June and extradited to Nigeria to face trial for alleged treason.

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF) of Nigeria, had said the IPOB leader was “intercepted through the collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security services”.

Binta Nyako, the judge presiding over Kanu’s case, had ordered that he be remanded him in the Department of State Services (DSS’) custody, pending the continuation of his trial.

Kanu was initially arrested on 14th October 2015 on an 11 count charge bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, among others. He had fled Nigeria ‘for safety purposes’.

He is accused of engaging in subversive activities that include inciting violence through television, radio and online broadcasts against Nigeria and Nigerian State and institutions.

Kanu is also accused of instigating violence, especially in Southeastern Nigeria, that resulted in the loss of lives and property of civilians, military, para military, police forces and destruction of civil institutions and symbols of authorities.
