IPOB Rejects Simon Ekpa's Affiliation, Sets Record Straight On Leadership

IPOB Rejects Simon Ekpa's Affiliation, Sets Record Straight

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has openly renounced Simon Ekpa, the leader of the self-proclaimed Auto Pilot Biafra Government in Exile.

The pro-Biafra separatist party has asked media outlets and social media platforms not to name Ekpa as a member, claiming that his actions and agenda do not correspond with IPOB's values.

In a public statement, IPOB's Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, expressed this stance. He emphasised to the public that Simon Ekpa is not a registered member of the separatist group and urged them to recognise this reality.

The IPOB statement expressed worry about external forces aiming to destabilise and split the organisation. It claimed that government agencies, notably the Department of State Services (DSS), are coordinating efforts to infiltrate and damage IPOB from within.

“It has become very imperative that we appeal to the media houses, social media outfits and platforms to be appropriately guided in reflecting the reality in their publication linking Simon Ekpa’s violent and other unlawful activities to IPOB when he is not our member and has told the world that the group he leads are Auto Pilot and Biafra Government in Exile.

“We have observed with dismay the deliberate moves by some media houses and social media platforms to attribute the violent and other activities of Simon Ekpa, to the noble family of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

“For clarity and emphasis, Simon Ekpa is not in any way registered with any unit of IPOB, neither is he connected to Eastern Security Network, ESN.

“We want the public to henceforth desist from further linking and associating Ekpa with IP)B and its activities.

“He is not our member and we have nothing to do with him. His activities are not and will never be in tandem with those of IPoB.

“We are mindful of the concerted efforts of DSS and similar agencies to infiltrate, undermine and divide IPOB with the sole motive of weakening the organisation from within, but using Ekpa who is not our member and can never be one is one of such failed move by the DSS."

According to the organisation, Simon Ekpa's acts, which involve violence and other illegal activity, are fraudulently attributed to IPOB when he operates freely.

IPOB has said explicitly that Simon Ekpa has no link with their ranks or allied organisations such as the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The statement explained that Ekpa is the leader of a different group called Auto Pilot and Biafra Government in Exile, which functions independently of IPOB.

Despite Ekpa's attempts to use the ESN name for his actions, IPOB stressed that this does not constitute a connection to their official network.

To emphasise his different identity from IPOB, the group referenced Ekpa's own utterances in social media videos, in which he alludes to his leadership of Auto Pilot and the Biafra Government in Exile.

“Ekpa is unknown to ESN. The fact that he has been using the ESN name to deceive gullible people through his endless fundraising schemes, does not in any way link him to ESN formed by IPoB.

“Ekpa said he leads an inconspicuous group called Auto Pilot and Biafra Government in Exile. He can be seen in most of his social media videos alluding to that very fact and certainly not a member or leader of IPoB."

Concerned about recurrent distortion in certain media channels, IPOB called for responsible reporting and truthful depiction.

The group demanded an end to any relationship between Simon Ekpa and IPOB, stating that he is not a member and that his acts are incompatible with their goals.

The leadership of IPOB reaffirms the organization's dedication to maintaining the principles and ambitions that characterise its cause as they navigate current difficulties and work to protect their mission.

“It is therefore worrisome that some media houses have persisted in attributing Simon Ekpa to membership of IPoB irrespective of the obvious.

“We appeal to ladies and gentlemen of the media to please refrain from associating Ekpa as a member of IPoB. because he is not one of us.”
