IPOB's Nnamdi Kanu Sends Fierce Message To River's Governor Wike Over Oyigbo Women

IPOB's Nnamdi Kanu Sends Fierce Message To River's Governor

Nnamdi Kanu, a Biafra political activist has told Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State that he "will be hunted down for all the atrocities he spearheaded against my people at Oyigbo".

Kanu via a tweet on his known handle on Thursday afternoon was reacting to a news report that says several women of Oyigbo town in the South-South state of Rivers were forced to wear the same underwear for four months while in Army detention.

"Anyone close to @GovWike should tell him that till the last days of his miserable life, he will be HUNTED down for all the atrocities he spearheaded against my people at #Obigbo. He will be hunted by legions, domestically & internationally. And it will be scorched-earth & fiery," Kanu, the diaspora-based leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) wrote.

An Eastern Nigerian-based Organization, the International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law (Intersociety) had on Tuesday noted that there were fears that some of the ladies, who were recently freed by Nigerian security forces after a prolonged legal intervention, could have infections such as sexually transmitted diseases, as some of them claimed to have been serially raped.

About 50 women allegedly arrested by the Nigerian Army during the crisis in Oyigbo, last October, were maltreated, Intersociety had said.

According to Sahara Reporters earlier in February, going by the accounts of two of the ladies, they were routinely raped by soldiers during the months they spent at the detention facility in Mogadishu Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja.

The Nigerian Army has been accused of inflicting war-grade assault on Oyigbo community, killing many residents, and injuring many others when it launched a brutal reprisal mission to Oyigbo, following the alleged killing of security operatives by IPOB members.

The Nigerian Army's operation in Oyigbo town in the fourth quarter of 2020 was believed to have been endorsed by Governor Wike as well as the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
