'Is Buhari's Memory So Short He Forgot About Lekki Shooting?' - English Social Activist At A Loss

'Is Buhari's Memory So Short He Forgot About Lekki Shooting?

English social activist, Adam Bradford has expressed his disappointment with President Muhammadu Buhari over his failure to speak undeviatingly about Tuesday's shooting of peaceful protesters at Lekki in Lagos.

AllNews reports that Buhari addressed Nigerians in a televised broadcast on Thursday, 48 hours after the infamous shooting, but did not really address the burning issue.

Instead, Buhari told foreign commenters to "know their facts before taking a position".

This comment from the West African nation's leader did not sit well with Bradford, who stated that "I must be one of those international observers who hastily made a pronouncement."

Bradford, an entrepreneur reacting via his verified Twitter handle on Thursday was puzzled to 'how a conversation about #EndSARS turn into a celebration about poverty alleviation?'

"I must be one of those international observers who hastily made a pronouncement," Bradford, 28, opined.

"How did a conversation about #EndSARS turn into a celebration about poverty alleviation? I think it is past Buhari's bedtime now.

"I hope all of us across the world can hold him to his words today."

He tweeted further minutes later.

"Is Buhari's memory so short that he forgot about the Lekki shooting? Youth, the world is yours, grab it with both hands and please keep up your strength."

Lekki shooting: International criticism

The alleged killing of anti-police brutality protesters drew international criticism, including from United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Anthony Guterres.

For the moment, the streets of major cities such as Lagos and Abuja, where protests initially started, were largely empty Friday.

Many other Nigerian states are adopting curfews and bans on protests to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
