Media entrepreneur and former senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, on Monday said he spoke to Mallam Isa Funtua, an associate of President Muhammadu Buhari "just three hours before his reported death, and he promised to further call me tomorrow".
Murray-Bruce consequently condoled with the family of the deceased.

AllNews reports that in a tweet, Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant on New Media to President Buhari, confirmed Funtua’s death as sudden.

Funtua was the founding managing director of Democrat Newspaper and former president of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN).
The deceased was life patron of NPAN and chairman of Bulet Construction Company.

His death comes three months after that of Abba Kyari, former Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Buhari.
Funtua and Kyari were very close to the president.
Like Buhari, Funtua hailed from Katsina state. One of his sons is married to the president’s daughter.
