Kano Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje
The Kano State government has pronounced Monday, August 1, 2022, as a work-free day to mark the beginning of 1445 Islamic (Hijrah) New Year.
The Hijrah is the migration of Islands noble Prophet from Makkah to Madina in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This year's Islamic year starts on Saturday, July 30, 2022.
The Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in a statement signed by the commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, said the new year calls for self-assessment and reflection.
He called on Muslims to use the holiday to seek Allah’s forgiveness and pray for His intervention to salvage the nation from the lingering security challenges and improvement in the general well-being and progress of the state and the country in general.
The governor assured residents of his administration's readiness to continue to deliver on its promise to improving their living standard through execution of people-oriented programmes and projects.
The statement also urged those who are yet to obtain their voter’s card to do so in order to be able to exercise their franchise in the forthcoming general elections.
