Isreal: Netanyahu Wins Party's Primary Election

Isreal: Netanyahu Wins Party's Primary Election

Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu won his party's primary, leading his right-wing party into the general election that will take place in March.

Netanyahu is Israel's longest-serving prime minister who currently is facing corruption charges and a track in the upcoming general election race happening in 12 months.

After the voting was done at the party's primary election, the results came out thus: Netanyahu won with 72.5 percent, while his opposition, Saar, won with 27.5 percent.

Although it was expected that Netanyahu would come out victorious, what this just goes to show is it entrenches Netanyahu's place in his party where he has ruled for over two decades.

In a tweet celebrating his win, Netanyahu tweeted, "A huge win! Thank you to Likud members for their trust, support and love.

"With God's and your help, I will lead the Likud to a big victory in the upcoming election, and we will continue to lead the State of Israel to unprecedented achievements."

The win by Netanyahu was expected by political enthusiasts in the country and abroad, but the massive win made it all the prominent.

A left-wing newspaper called the election a tussle between the "rational expediency" of the supporters of Netanyahu's opposition and the "tribal loyalty" of the Netanyahu tribe.

"Since 1948, the Labor Party has replaced its leader 17 times," the newspaper said.

"The Likud has had only four leaders since Israel's inception, and only two since 1995.

"Netanyahu has led the party for the past 14 years consecutively, and for two decades altogether. Younger Likudniks have never known their party without Netanyahu at its helm."
