Nigeria’s proscribed terrorist group, Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for an explosion that led to the death/injury of 30 persons at an alcohol market in Taraba State.
The Tuesday explosion in Iware town has according to police killed three and injured 19.
According to Aljazeera, ISWAP has late on Wednesday in a statement posted on a Telegram messaging channel used by the group described those who detonated the bomb in the market as “soldiers of the caliphate in central Nigeria”.
The statement said the attack had struck “a gathering of infidel Christians” and expressed satisfaction that the drinking spot had been damaged. It did not break down the casualty figure into dead and injured.
A journalist in Taraba, Tyopusu Justin Aondoaseer has two months back wrote a piece alerting authorities of the presence of some criminal elements at the borders of Taraba, suspected to be fleeing from some Northwestern states of the country.
This is the first time Taraba is witnessing an attack on the attack from ISWAP group.
Security agencies are yet to make formal comments on the issue.
