IT Reporters Hold Maiden Conference To Promote ICT Sector Ac

The Nigeria Information Technology Reporters’ Association (NITRA), Abuja Chapter, has put measures in place for its maiden conference targeted at projecting the activities and achievements in the Communications sector.

The conference is expected to hold on Monday, Dec. 13, in Abuja, a statement by the President of the chapter, Blessing Olaifa, said.

“It is worthy of note that the giant strides through the various pillars of reforms introduced by the Communications Minister, Prof. Isa Pantami, have repositioned the sector as a major contributor to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).,"

“The ministry’s aggressive pursuit of positive reforms has no doubt put Nigeria on the path to the attainment of Nigeria’s digitalisation before the targeted 2030 date,"

“As one of the sector’s stakeholders, NITRA did not only see the inaugural annual conference as part of the synergy with the Ministry, its Departments and Agencies but also as an avenue to promote the activities and laudable achievements of the sector,” Olaifa said.

The president also said the event would provide the opportunity for telecom stakeholders to brainstorm on ways to leverage technology to proffer solutions to the increasing security threats in the country.

With the theme: “Digitisation as an Enabler for Tackling Insecurity in Nigeria”, he added that lessons to be learned from this year’s conference would be used to consolidate on the organisation’s next edition of the conference. 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Pantami, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta, other heads of agencies and parastatals under the ministry are scheduled to attend the event.

Partners expected at the conference include the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy,  NCC, National Information Technology Development Agency, Galaxy Backbone, Nigerian Communications Satellite, among other stakeholders in the sector.
