Italian Super Cup: Reactions Trail Juventus' Defeat To Lazio

After yesterday's 3-1 loss to Lazio in the Italian Supercup final, Juventus attacker and world revered striker, Christiano Ronaldo was seen waving affectionately at a young fan on the pitch, a warm smile plastered on his face.

However, one would be excused for questioning if that smile was real or was just a faux show of warmth for the camera, with the 33-year-old having passed up a chance to add another honour to his already illustriously adorned cabinet.

For the second time this season, Lazio tamed the Portuguese's wings and rendered him frustrated, securing maximum points in the process. This time though, Juventus will feel their dominance is being tested with opposing sides now motivated to cause mishaps to their Serie A season.

Before the encounter, Lazio had been the only team to have defeated the Italian champions in Serie A this season, leading head coach, Fillipo Inzaghi euphoric. "We did something magical - to beat Juve twice in two weeks is incredible," Inzaghi told Rai Sport. "I think this was another deserved victory for a strong team that always believed in our ideas."

Juventus head coach, Sarri, overseeing his first final - and loss - since taking over said he felt angry at the loss but has to dust himself and move on.

"We are sorry we lost a trophy, but we still have many competitions at stake in the next five months," said Sarri. "There is anger but crying over it does not solve the problems."

Ronaldo who was obviously displeased by the result pulled off his silver medal straight away after it was given to him, an action that had drawn criticism from several quarters with several fans terming his actions "disrespectful" while other pundits believe the Portuguese captain "should be ashamed."

Meanwhile, while Maurizio Sarri conceded Juventus lacked energy in the defeat, also insisting the selection of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain in the attack was not to blame.

"We arrived at this game short of energy, physically and mentally," Sarri told a news conference. "This happens. Meanwhile, Lazio are experiencing a moment of incredible form.

"We are sorry we lost a title, but we still have many competitions to play for in the next five months. There is anger, but crying over it does not solve the problems.

"We did not lose because of the front three since we conceded the [second and third] goals after I added a midfielder."
