Ivory Coast Footballer Dies During Football Match

Ivory Coast footballer Moustapha Sylla died on Sunday evening after falling ill while playing in a first-division match.

The 21-year-old defender died on the way to the hospital.

Club president Logossina Cisse informed news media that Sylla had felt unwell during the match against Sol FC. 

He confirmed also confirmed that Sylla had passed away onboard the ambulance.

“Our defender Moustapha Sylla died on Sunday evening following an illness on the pitch during the RCA vs Sol FC match,” said a club statement.

“During his evacuation to the hospital, Moustapha died. He arrived at the club last September and was only 21,” club president Logossina Cisse confirmed to news media outlets. 

Moustapha Sylla played for Racing d’Abidjan, which was the national champion in 2020 and is currently seventh in the championship.
