The Borno State First Lady, Dr. Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum, has supported vulnerable women in the state with empowerment items.

The support was part of the First Lady's plans to celebrate the 2023 International Women's Day (IWD).

Zulum who is also the Founder of the Multi Aid and Charity Initiative (MACI) flagged off the event on Wednesday at the State's Government House in Maiduguri.

The theme of the event was 'Digital Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality'.

The event was organised by the State's Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with International Donors.

The support by the First Lady was to enable the women to be self-reliant and contribute to their family income.

Some of the items distributed include foodstuff and cooking items to enable them to start up their restaurant businesses.

Dr Zulum urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items.

She further appreciated the organizers and wished all women of the world a happy International Women's Day celebration.

In an earlier address, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, appreciated governor Babagana Umara Zulum and other Non-Governmental Organisations for supporting vulnerable women in the state.
