Tunisian seventh seed Ons Jabeur has moved into the French Open quarter-finals for the first time on Monday.
Jabeur, a Wimbledon and US Open runner-up last year, beat American Bernarda Pera 6-3 6-1 to set up a meeting with14th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia who became only the second Brazilian woman to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final in the Open Era after Maria Bueno in 1968.
The 28-year-old Tunisian was rarely troubled by underdog Pera who failed to hold a single service game.
Excited about the win, Jabeur said: “I wouldn’t say it was easy. It was very tough and I’m so happy.
“It took me three times to get to the quarter-finals and I’m very happy to make my best result here at the French Open.
"Hopefully I can continue playing well and we will see what happens.”
On facing Haddad Maia next, Jabeur is expecting a difficult match but hopes that the romantic atmosphere of Paris will give her the confidence she needs to make a deep run at Roland Garros.
"For now, I just want to take it one match at a time," added Jabeur, who became the first African player to reach the quarters at each of the four majors in the Open Era.
"I will have a very difficult quarter-final. I was just taking it one match at a time, trying to make it to the second week.
"Now I'm going to push more for the next few matches."
