The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned accredited Computer Based Tests (CBT) centres against extorting candidates, threatening to fine erring centres.
This warning was issued in the board's weekly bulletin published on Monday where it noted that some operators charged above the stipulated N700 fee for their services to candidates.
JAMB said it not to excuse any form of exploitation by any centre, threatening to impose a fine of N100, 000 and a probable revocation of licence by the board.
“Centre owners are warned that failure to desist from the nefarious act would attract a fine of N100, 000 and possible revocation of licence issued by JAMB.
“Candidates are advised to report any CBT centre charging above the board’s stipulated fee for any of its services,’’ it stated.
JAMB had, in February, accredited CBT centres to involve in the registration of candidates, application of background students for part-time studies, sandwich programmes, National Open University of Nigeria programmes, and distance learning programmes.
According to JAMB, the licencing which was done on request by the CBT centres became necessary to reduce the number of its offices across the nation.
