Japan Expresses Concerns Over China-Russia Joint Air Drills

Japan has voiced concerns over China and Russia's joint air force activities around Japanese territory.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said on Thursday; "We will closely monitor the increasing cooperation between the two countries with a sense of concern."

The Russian Defense Ministry on Wednesday announced its military and Chinese counterpart conducted joint patrols of strategic warplanes over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea.

It said that the Tu-95 bombers of the Russian air force and the Chinese H-6K bombers flew over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea.

As part of the drills, the Russian bombers for the first time landed in China and the Chinese bombers flew to an air base in Russia.
