Japan's Prime Minister Arrives In Ghana

Japan's Prime Minister Kicks Off African Tour, Lands In Accra, Ghana, To Visit Kenya, Mozambique.

Japan's Prime minister is on an African tour. He arrived on Monday, May 1, 2023, in Ghana, the day before he was in Egypt. He is set to visit Kenya and Mozambique also. 

The Prime Minister arrived at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana, for a bilateral meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Egypt's president, Abdel Fatthah al-Sissi, welcomed Fumio Kishida on Sunday, April 30, 2023. 

Kishida met Egypt's president after meeting with the Arab League's Secretary-General at the organization's headquarters in Cairo.

During a press conference, Al Sissi went over the agenda's topics in detail.  

"We reviewed the challenges the international arena is witnessing today, in particular the massive economic repercussions left by the Ukrainian crisis on developing countries that exceeded what the coronavirus pandemic caused in terms of a rise in inflation rates, energy and food prices, and expectations of a decline in the growth rate."

The discussions took place as Japan prepares to host the G7 Summit on May 19-25.

"We discussed several regional issues of mutual concern, particularly the Palestinian issue and the situation in Libya.

"Sudanese developments were a major topic of discussion.

"I emphasized to Prime Minister Egypt's vision based on the need for an immediate, permanent, and comprehensive cessation of fire in Sudan, as well as the importance of any external party refraining from intervening in the crisis as a purely Sudanese matter, thereby facilitating the defusing of the crisis and preventing its aggravation."

Japan's Prime Minister attended the "Japan-Egypt Business Forum" as well. 

According to business source Zawya, citing official data from Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, Japanese investments in Egypt increased by more than 98% during the fiscal year 2021 - 2022, reaching $73.70 million from $37.10 million. However, the trade value fell by 26.30% year on year (YoY) to $1.10 billion in 2022 from $1.60 billion.
