Japaul Gold Ends Losing Streak As All-Share Index Plunges

The All-share index fell 1.33 percent to 38781.48 index points on Wednesday, giving away one week's gains after its winning streak ended yesterday.

Despite a 2 percent improvement in deals to 3,547, corresponding to a market value of N1,910,403,086.24, the All-Share Index led the Nigerian Stock Exchange's market capitalization down to N20.3 trillion from yesterday's N20.58 trillion. Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Tuesday, April 27), today's data shows 3 percent improvement in volume, and 8 percent improvement in turnover.

Top 5 Gainers

Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Plc led 19 gainers on Wednesday, gaining 10 percent, or 3kobo to recover yesterday's losses, and close trading at 33kobo per share.

Portland Paints and Products Plc gained 8.33 percent, or 20kobo to close trading at N2.60 per share, bringing its volatile year's performance to a 5.69 percent gain year-to-date.

Royal Exchange Plc extended its rally to a new one-month high as it rose by 7.14 percent, or 3 kobo to end today's trading session at 45kobo per share, closing in on its 52-week high of 48kobo per share.

Associated Bus Company Plc posted gains for the first time since April 7, rising 6.9 percent or 2kobo to close trading at 31kobo per share.

Japaul Gold & Ventures Plc gained for the first time since April 13 when it peaked at a one-month high of 75kobo. The rebranded mining company's shares jumped 5.17 percent or 3kobo to close the session at 61kobo per share.

FTN Cocoa Processors Plc led 25 losers today, plunging 10 percent, or 4kobo, to close at a new one-month low of 36kobo per share.

Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc ended a flat trading streak with an 8.95 percent plunge worth 17kobo to close trading at a new one-month low of N1.73 per share.

International Breweries Plc fell 8.77 percent, or 5kobo to close trading at a new one-month low of N5.2 per share.

PZ Cussons Plc slumped 7.41 percent or 4kobo, its second-biggest intraday loss of the month to close trading at N5 per share.

Cornerstone Insurance Plc had its biggest intraday loss of the month, dropping 7.02 percent, or 4kobo to close trading at 53kobo oer share.

Top 5 Trades

FBN Holdings Plc was the most actively traded stock on Wednesday, with 69.48 million units valued at N514.3 million.

Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) followed with 36.72 million units traded, valued at approximately N33 million.

Zenith Bank Plc had 16.68 million units traded on Wednesday, valued at N366.4 million.

Sovereign Insurance Plc gathered a trading volume of 12.58 million units valued at N2.9 million.

United Capital Plc had a trading volume of 8.89 million units valued at N50.2 million.
