Nigerian multimedia performance artist Jelili Atiku has announced that his performance titled "(I am) À Yàmù Yorùbá (Maanifẹsítò VIII)" will be screened on December 8, 2021, from 11 PM Central European Time (CET).
The performance is part of '25 Years 25 Hours, an online festival to celebrate Prince Claus Fund’s 25th-anniversary which will hold from December 8 t0 9, 2021.
Speaking on the purpose of the performance on his Facebook page, Atiku wrote, "The performance premises on the context of causes and agitation for Yoruba self-determination.
"For the survival of Yoruba indigenous Language, culture, human values, philosophy; and above all, in the absence of true decolonization and 'a return to the true and ideal regional system of government in Nigeria', Yoruba nation must be established!"
Atiku's performance with drawing, photography, installation sculpture, video, and live performance has made him one of the most recognized performance artists from Nigeria around the world.
His work is said to have a power which "lies in his use of Yoruba symbols and traditions of his local community" and he has been called "the father of Nigerian contemporary performance art."
