JIFORM Requests Partnership With Chinese Embassy On Media Ed

The Journalists International Forum For Migration (JIFORM) has requested a partnership with the Chines embassy in Nigeria to boost trade and migration cases through media education.

Dr Ajibola Abayomi, the President of JIFORM, in a statement on Wednesday, said the demand was made during his visit to the embassy's Lagos office.

The President requested support on capacity building for journalists covering migration, with the aim of improving their understanding of trade opportunities in China and migration reportage.

“The JIFORM has been promoting purposeful migration of Nigerians to China and several countries over the years.

“We are here to seek your support regarding knowledge sharing to improve the capacity of the JIFORM members in the reportage of economic and migration policies involving China.

“We are also open to collaboration that will encourage regular migration to strengthen the relationship between us and your embassy as well as promote better working relationships with the Nigerian government on foreign policies,” Ajibola said.

Responding to the call, Jin Ming Yu, the Deputy Consul General, commended JIFORM for his visit to the embassy, vowing to review the proposals to support media capacity building.

According to Yu, many Nigerians have set up businesses in China and Chinese nationals have also been instrumental in the technology and construction sectors in Nigeria.

He emphasised the desire to cooperate with JIFORM to promote quality information about trade and investment opportunities between China and Nigeria.

JIFORM is a non-profit body of over 300 journalists and other volunteers across Africa covering migration matters.
