Jigawa Canoe Mishap: Death Toll Rises To Seven

Following a canoe accident in Ringim local government area of Jigawa state on Sunday, the number of casualties has risen to seven.

Confirming the incident, the Jigawa State Police Command in a statement said the canoe which was conveying 13 people hit an object and capsized. 

Two bodies recovered were confirmed dead by a medical doctor at the Ringim General Hospital. 

The statement which was signed by spokesperson of the command, Lawan Shiisu stated that the police alongside local divers have recovered five more bodies. 

"Report shows that five more corpses were recovered while one person is still missing from the canoe accident", Shiisu said.

He explained that the command received report of the incident and sprang into action alongside local divers, which led to the rescue of seven persons.

Meanwhile, two of the seven identified as 30-year-old Bara’atu Garba, and three-year-old Mahmud Surajo died at the hospital 

The statement further read that rescue operation is still ongoing to recover the remaining persons.
