Jigawa First Lady Begins N81 Miillion Cash Transfer To 1,620 Women

Jigawa First Lady Begins N81 Miillion Cash Transfer To 1,620

The wife of Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State, Hajiya Asma'u Badaru has begun cash transfer of N81 million to 1,620 women in the state.

The cash transfer is under the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG CARES) Program.

The First Lady while flagging-off the cash transfer in Dutse, the state's capital said other women would benefit from livestock empowerment.

She stated that the program is meant to help vulnerable people in the state worst hit by COVID-19 to recover.

Mrs Badaru explained that 1,620 women would receive the sum of N50,000 each while 17 others from 27 local government areas each to receive rabbits and rearing kits.

She added that 11 other women each from the 27 LGAs of the state would receive chickens and rearing kit.

“This is part of efforts to ensure that poor and vulnerable households that have been hit by the negative effect of the covid 19 pandemic bounce on back.

“Thousands of people have been hurt, some even lost their livelihood as a result of the measures put in place to control the spread of the virus.

"Although this was the best thing to do, it has left many families in despair.

"This is why this empowerment is important at this time."

In his remark, the Special Advisor to Governor Badaru on Economic Empowerment, Alhaji Abba Mujaddadi called on the women to utilize the money and other forms of empowerment they received judiciously.

“This is a world bank supported program.

"And the beneficiaries were drawn from the existing social register in the state.

"They were trained under the empowerment directorate on entrepreneurship skills so that they can be able to build on the business.”

He further explained that the empowerment program was the continuation of what the government had started in Kazaure LGA of the state in the past weeks.

He added that a similar program would be launched in Hadejia emirate soon.

"And we will monitor the progress of their business which will qualify some of them for subsequent empowerment," he added.
