JISEMA distributes relief items to 400 flood victims in Jiga

The Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency, JISEMA has provided relief materials to 400 residents of Buji Local Government Area, LGA who were displaced by a flood that occurred last Thursday. 

The flood impacted the communities of Gantsa, the council's headquarters, and Gwadayi village, leading to the evacuation of affected individuals.

Dr. Haruna Mairiga, the Executive Secretary of JISEMA, confirmed that the displaced persons have been temporarily relocated to a primary school within the area. 

He assured that healthcare services and safe drinking water have been made available at the camp to cater to the needs of the victims.

The relief items distributed include 300 bags of rice (10kg each), 900 pieces of spaghetti, 10 bags of garri (50kg each), 10 bags of maize (100kg each), three bags of groundnut cake (100kg each), as well as 100 blankets, 100 mats, and 300 mosquito nets.

"We are here to provide succour to the flood victims in Gantsa and Gwadayi," Mairiga said. 

"400 of them will benefit from these items. I want to assure those affected that more relief materials will be coming in due course." 

He also noted that the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA had been informed of the flood, and additional assistance is expected.

The Director of Administration and General Services of Buji LGA, Mr. Shuaibu Na’aba, who also serves as the Caretaker Chairman of the council, praised the state government for its prompt response. 

"We commend the state government for its quick response to the plight of the victims," Na’aba said.

He added that the council would soon provide further assistance to those affected.

It was reported that over 1,000 rice and guinea corn farms were damaged due to the flood, exacerbating the challenges faced by the local farmers.

It is gathered that the distributed items are currently stored at the palace of the District Head, from where they will be distributed to the flood victims.
