A Jordanian army officer was killed on Sunday when drug smugglers trying to enter the country from Syria fired at an army outpost along the border.
The smugglers fled back to Syria, leaving behind a large cache of drugs, a Jordanian army statement stated
Jordan’s official news agency PETRA, reported that Captain Mohammed Yasin Khdeirat died and three of his colleagues were also wounded following an exchange of fire near the country’s borders with Syria.
“The army will respond with all strength against any infiltration attempt to protect our borders and prevent anyone who dares to violate our national security," a statement by the military read in part.
