JUST IN: How Nigerian Govt Tried To Extradite Sunday Igboho

Leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Odua, Prof. Bánjí Akíntóyè, has lifted the lid on the attempted extradition by the Nigerian government of Sunday Igboho, commonly known as Igboho.

Akintoye, in an interview with BBC News Yoruba published on Tuesday morning insisted that Nigerian separatist leader, Igboho has not violated any law.

“When the Beninese court heard Sunday Igboho’s case, they wondered the basis for the extradition in this kind of situation. Has he been guilty of any offence before?

“Nigeria then said in court that he is into armed struggle and is also among those leading the calls for the secession of the country. The Beninese court then said under international law, these are not laws that can warrant extraditing a person.”

Igboho gained social media attention in January 2021 when he gave an ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen in Ibarapa to vacate the land after the killing of Dr. Fatai Aborode and enforced same.
