JUST IN: Kudirat, Widow Of June 12 Hero, Alao Aka-Bashorun I

Mrs Kudirat Aka-Bashorun, wife of late human rights lawyer and ex-President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Alao Aka-Bashorun, has passed on at the age of 75.

Mrs Kudirat Aka-Bashorun died on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

The death was announced in a brief statement signed by Dipo Aka-Bashorun on behalf of the family.

The statement reads, “On behalf of the family of Late Alao Aka-Bashorun, we wish to announce the passing of our dear mother and grand-mother, Mrs. Kudirat Aka-Bashorun who passed on September 22nd, 2021. Age 75 May her soul Rest In Peace.”

Mrs Kudirat Alao Aka Bashorun came from a Muslim background and got married to her late husband on the 11th day of November 1964. She is blessed with four children.

At the age of 53, she converted to Christain.

She stood solidly behind their husband during his many activities against military dictatorship. She took care of the home front in the dark days of military rule. Kudirat, whose father was the Ajiroba of Lagos, became a councilor in Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The activities of the late Alao Aka-Bashorun undoubtedly contributed to shaping the agitation against the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

The military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida also seized his passport in 1990 because of his unending opposition to military rule. He pursued lofty ideals for the NBA to be a fortress for the oppressed and the weak until he died on October 1, 2005.
